Surface Pro 3 Camera Settings: Tips and Tricks for Taking Great Photos and Videos



To change from the rear camera to the front camera on a Surface Pro, open the Camera app on the Surface Pro, then swipe down to reveal Camera Options. Tap Change Camera to change from the rear to the front camera. Tap Change Camera again to go back.

You can zoom in or out, switch between the front and back cameras, change the photo aspect ratio, show or hide framing grid lines, adjust video settings, and change what happens when you press and hold the camera button. To learn how, see How to use the Camera app.

When it's turned off, your device may not recognize that there's a camera installed, or it may cause your camera to show an image of a camera with a slash through it. If your laptop has a switch or button, make sure it's in the on position before using your camera.

You can't turn off camera access for individual desktop apps. Internet browsers, like Microsoft Edge, and many video conferencing apps, like Microsoft Teams, are desktop apps that require this setting to be turned on.


Most available USB webcams are UVC (standard USB Video Class) compatible cameras. They will work with the UVC driver that is included in Windows (the in-box UVC driver). If your webcam is not working correctly, swapping to the in-box UVC driver may resolve the issue. Please follow the steps below to change drivers (admin rights are required).

If ExamID or Examplify is requesting camera access and it is already enabled or the camera selected is the rear-facing camera, you will need to disable the rear camera in the Device Manager. This process is different for the Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4:
