So I've had an absolute nightmare of a time getting pro tools 12 to work on my AMD RYZEN5 windows 10 (version 20H2) PC with an NI Komplete audio 6 interface but I think I've got to a point where it's usable but still with the rare inexplicable CPU overload.
So first off - make sure your installers for pro tools and the audio interface are in the root or program files of your windows SSD. This is stated in documents for pro tools and the trouble shooting guide for Komplete audio 6. As someone who generally doesn't read documentation unless it's necessary, this took me by surprise as I generally download installers to a seperate data hard drive and install software from there but apparently that isn't always a good idea.

Option 1: have your windows default audio device as a seperate device such as the inbuilt "High Definition Audio Device". You can then use your fancy audio interface exclusively for pro tools & other DAW's. This does mean that your computers audio is now coming out of the audio interface and possibly your motherboard so it will require extra cabling to get it all hooked up to speakers but hopefully that won't be an issue for most people reading this.
